Happy World Book Day 2026
Happy World Book Day!
What an amazing celebration we had this year! Our school was bursting with colour, creativity, and imagination as children and staff brought their favourite stories to life. From the moment the doors opened, it felt like stepping into a giant library where every book had jumped right off the shelf!
We saw beloved characters old and new—Matilda with her stack of books, Harry Potter with his wand at the ready, Snowwhite with her crown, Beauty and the Beast, Anna from Frozen, The little mermaid and even a few unexpected visitors like James and the Giant Peach, Wimpy Kid, an evacuee from World War 2 and heroes from the worlds of Roald Dahl and Julia Donaldson. Book Day wouldn't be complete without our host of footballers from the world-class Ronaldo to the locals.
It was wonderful to see many modern favourites too—Dog Man, and characters from David Walliams and added fun and excitement to the day. And best of all, so many children proudly dressed as characters from our own Irish collection of new books—showing just how much they are enjoying discovering stories by brilliant Irish writers such as Eilish Fisher, Emma Larkin, Ellan Rankin and Leona Forde.
Old classics made a big comeback too—proving that once a good book, always a good book! Whether it was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or Little House on the Prairie , it was lovely to see these timeless tales still treasured today.
The staff went all out as well, joining in with characters from every corner of the book world. From gangsters, big friendly giants to unicorns, Miss Giggles to Winners of a golden ticket, butterflies and a Scarecrow and the Staff team brought the magic of reading to life and reminded everyone that books spark joy for readers of every age.
Today showed us that every book has the power to inspire, to comfort, to excite, and to make us dream. Thank you to all the children for your brilliant effort, imagination, and individuality—you made World Book Day truly unforgettable.
Even the Library van turned up today!
Keep reading, keep imagining, and keep turning those pages…
Because every story is the start of an adventure!
