Tyrone GAA Blitz

30th May 2019

Our school team travelled to St. Patrick’s P.S., Newtownstewart for the Tyrone GAA qualifier blitz. We were in the same group as Gortin, Aghyaran and the Glebe and thought we had a good chance to qualify for the regional final in Garvaghey.

First up we faced Gortin and although the conditions were not ideal we managed to sneak in a win. Hopes were high already. Aghyaran played St. Theresa’s and got the win too. Next up we played Aghyaran and after spurning several good chances to see them off we were beaten by two points. In the other match, Gortin beat St. Theresa’s by a comfortable margin. Our final game saw us needing a win against St. Theresa’s and hoping Gortin could do us a favour against Aghyaran.

Of course the results went our way, but what we hadn’t accounted for was Gortin winning by a big margin. This left the decision to go to goal difference and unfortunately, we were pipped by a solitary point. It wasn’t meant to be, but the boys and girls did their school proud.

Until next year...
