The MacRory and Hogan cup visit our pupils

15th Jun 2023

This morning the boys and girls had a special visit from past pupils: Lorcan, Conor and Tomas who formed part of the panel representing Omagh CBS in both the MacRory Cup final for Ulster and the coveted All-Ireland Hogan cup final. Unfortunately their teammate, Conor, another last pupil, could not attend today.

The children heard about why the two cups were so important to the CBS players and how these wins were so historic.  Omagh CBS had not won the MacRory cup for 16 years previous to this year, with this title being their 5th time to be awarded the piece of silverware. Following from these wins, this was the second ever win the school had for the Hogan cup, which was played for on St Patrick’s Day in Croke Park where the boys, alongside their team mates, beat Summerhill College in Sligo with an impressive 6:16 to 3:18.  We are so proud of our past pupils’ achievements in gaining this accolade and the pride they have brought to their school and club has been immeasurable.

The boys answered questions from some of our current pupils and gave them some great advice about striving to be the best they can possibly be in the sport of GAA and in anything they do in life. They also conveyed the message about the importance of listening to the advice of your coach and to practise skills at any opportunity!
