I am writing to highlight recent communication from Libraries NI regarding this year’s Big Summer Read, which will take place across Northern Ireland during July and August. Participation is free, and all children and families can access their local public library at no cost, making this an inclusive and accessible opportunity for all.

As we approach the end of term, I appreciate that schools are managing a range of priorities; however, this initiative provides a valuable opportunity to encourage children to continue reading over the summer holidays, helping to sustain engagement and maintain the progress made during the school year. It also supports wider efforts during the National Year of Reading to promote reading for pleasure as part of a strong literacy culture.
