Beat the Staff...

26th Sep 2025

In a spirited celebration of National Fitness Day, St. Peter’s Primary School hosted its much-anticipated ‘Beat the Staff event — a day filled with laughter, competition, and community spirit. Though the national day fell on Wednesday, the school wisely waited for today’s beautiful weather to stage the showdown, and it was well worth the wait!

The event kicked off with P1 taking on the staff in a lively game of Farmers and Lumberjacks (or Cups and Saucers as it's more commonly known). Despite the best effort from staff, the 17 energetic P1 pupils dominated, flipping over an impressive 40+ saucers compared to the teachers’ modest 10 cups.
Score: 1-0 to the pupils.

Next up, P2 challenged the staff to a 60-second Star Jump contest. Seanie Boy stole the show with a whopping 50 star jumps, leaving even the valiant Mrs Mossey trailing with 40.
Score: 2-0 to the pupils.

The teachers, now under pressure, found hope in P3’s game of Lambs and Wolves. Though the pupils cheekily claimed the staff were “too tall,” the staff bent low (perhaps too low!) and finally clinched a win.
Score: 2-1.

P4 brought precision to the playground with a game of Bullseye using beanbags. The pupils scored a strong 55, but the staff, with eagle-eyed aim and two players to spare, soared to 78.
Score: 2-2 — all square!

Confidence surged for the staff as they faced P5 in a fierce game of Dodgeball. Sarah gave a brave fight, but Ms Falls and Mrs Bradley were relentless, with Mrs Bradley earning the nickname “the sniper”!
Score: 3-2 to the staff.

With a chance to seal the victory, the staff took on P6 in Rock, Paper, Scissors. The tension was palpable, and the contest electric. In the end, it was Aoibhe who delivered the final blow, levelling the score.
Score: 3-3.

The grand finale came after lunch, with the mighty P7s stepping up. Fueled by buns from Classroom Assistant Appreciation Day (some joked they were performance-enhancing!), the staff gave it their all. In a dramatic finish and after Mrs Teague kept the staff in with a fighting chance, Miss Falls landed a buzzer-beater that secured the staffs’ first title in years!

The pupils, ever gracious, applauded their teachers and teaching assistants with pride and joy. It was a day of fun, fitness, and fantastic memories — a true celebration of school spirit at St. Peter’s P.S.

Final Score: Staff 4 – Pupils 3
